Contemporary Art and Geology: The Dialogue on Landscape Continues

The collaboration with the national initiative “Una Boccata d’Arte” is strengthened

This year, the collaboration between the Territorial Defense Sector and the “Una Boccata d’Arte” (Trad: "A breath of art") project is renewed. The project involves 20 artists of different nationalities, 20 Italian municipalities, and 20 curators, who work together to create 20 contemporary art projects in dialogue with the territory and the local community. The chosen village for Emilia-Romagna this year is Berceto, in the province of Parma, which will host the work of Icelandic artist Sóley Ragnarsdóttir, curated by Sofia Baldi Pighi.

The collaboration begins with scientific consultation to provide the artist with geological knowledge of the territory for a deep understanding of the landscape and its evolution. The first meeting between colleague Stefano Segadelli and artist Sóley Ragnarsdóttir, held on May 2nd, highlighted many points of convergence between the geological approach to landscape reading and the history of the village, as well as the artist’s vision.

We now await the project’s developments. The inauguration is scheduled for June 22nd.

“A breath of art” is a national initiative, now in its fifth edition, promoted by the Elpis Foundation in collaboration with Galleria Continua and with the participation of Threes. Born in 2020 during the pandemic, the initiative aimed to provide a strong signal of encouragement during a period of great uncertainty, promoting the encounter between contemporary artistic practices and places far from the most beaten tourist paths.
