Understanding your influence on climate and its influence on you and society

VIDEO

As part of the cross-border project AdriaClim, in Split was organised an international hybrid two-day conference "Protect the coast, adapt to climate change!" on June 7 and 8, 2022. The conference brought together more than 100 leading international experts, policy actors and decision makers in the field of climate change. The conference was attended by representatives of all 19 partner organizations from Croatia and Italy, which brings together the AdriaClim project. The conference is organized by the Public Institution RERA, one of the project partners.

Climate change - What is it and how can we contribute to the fight against climate change?

Cambiamenti climatici - Che cosa sono e come possiamo dare il nostro contributo alla lotta contro la crisi climatica?

Klimatske promjene - Što su i kako mi možemo pridonijeti borbi protiv klimatske krize?

The delta of the Neretva River is the largest estuary in Croatia and one of the most important agricultural areas. The delta is also a valuable ecosystem, home to numerous endemic species and is included in the Ramsar list as a wetland of international importance.

Saltwater intrusion into the Neretva riverbed has a negative impact on agricultural production, but also on the biodiversity and balance of this fragile ecosystem. Unfortunately, according to climate projections, the frequency of saltwater intrusion is expected to increase due to rising sea levels and the decrease in precipitation and river flow in summer. All this prompted the scientists of the Laboratory of physical oceanography to study the salinization of the Neretva estuary in more detail as part of the international project Interreg ITA-CRO AdriaClim.
